Hotel facility excellent for us. Loved the idea of Kitchenette with lots of space and all that you need to cook if you want to which was perfect for us. Couple maintinence faults like plugs not working and loose tap but overall exellent spacious rooms and lounge facilities. Excellent breakfast and very helpful staff in restaurant. It was more a banquet than breakfast, home cooked pastries and muffins to top it all. One down side was checking in, staff very inefficient and even though they told us the room would be ready in hour we arrived back 2 hours later and still had to sit about for another hour...not impressed. There was a lot of staff standing around not doing a lot and not very helpful in their advice or customer care. Not great eating facilities, lots of independently run facilities to hotel(spa, taxi/tour co, restaurents) and they don't seem to communicate with each other although affiliated.....

Everything about this hotel was great. The room had separate bedrooms and bathrooms, kitchen with washer and dryer, and we could see Table Mtn from the window. The breakfast bar had everything you could want and the restaurant in the hotel had a good variety for a really good price. Also, the gym had lots of working eqt. Incredible value for the money.

The hotel is...ok! The room was nicely decorated and had everything you could need for a short stay. It would have been nice to see housekeeping staff more often as we were left without toilet paper, clean towels etc... The staff at reception were pleasant but didn't go out of their way. The internet was down for the whole five days we were there and the breakfast left much to be desired. But, at the end of the day we went to Cape Town to explore the city and the hotel provided a bed for the night. If you looking for a decent place to crash without the frills, then this place is ok.

The rooms are nice and roomy as they are basically apartments. Only real negative were the hard beds which were common at the other hotels we stayed at in South Africa and door slamming (doors are spring loaded so it echoes in the hallways as the doors shut when people leave their rooms). But for the price and location it can't be beat.

Hotel staff were more than keen to help. We arrived at 10 am and within half hour we had our room, even though check in was not till 2 pm. The room we choose was a platinium one which just oozed space, was very modern and clean. A kitchen with all the appliances inc a washing machine( the maid will leave you some washing powder if you need) A dish washer although the maid was very good and cleaned up too! We had a side room which overlooked the pool, which was lovely but noisy in the evenings from the offices adjacent. The only real let down as the rooms to the other side have a fantastic view of table mountain , if not in cloud! We had a hire car and was great to have secure parking within the hotel. Saved on the worry of having to have your car looked after by 1 of the locals over night. The hotel has a card system that doesnt allow acess fom the car park or into hotel lifts with out so you can feel quite secure. There a 3 restaurants within the hotel an italian and fish restaurant in the lobby and synergie on the 7 th floor which is only open for breakfast and lunch in the winter time. All food was excellent and so cheap! We did not venture out much after 7ish as the area in the evenings was not the safest although ok during day light hours

The fact that this is an apartment rather than a hotel room is a big advantage because of the cooker, washing machine/dryer etc. House keeping service was miles ahead of anywhere else we've stayed. all dishes and washing up was done, dried and put away which was not expected. kinda made us feel a bit guilty tho. staff were extremely friendly and helpful. we also felt very safe there because you cant enter the lift to the bedrooms without a security guard letting you through. this is 24hr.

I don't know why we didn't pay at least double what we did for this room. The studio also had a kitchen which was a nice addition. There was also a business center that arranged our shuttles and was a pleasure. If we come back to Cape, this is absolutely where we'd stay!!

The hotel opened late in 2007 and has undergone extensive moderisation and internal rebuilding since it was previously an office block. The street doors all lead into the attrium which had at least four security staff in attendance at all times. There was also the usual bussle of staff on the reception, bar and concierge desks. Entrance to the lifts to get to the rooms is via locked doors which the security staff let you through. Our room for the week was on the 8th floor and was, in effect, a flat; kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, livingroom and balcony. Perhaps the bed was a bit hard for my taste, and the fridge packed up half way through our stay, but it really did feel like home. The only gripes we had were 1) the cleaner liked to wedge the front door open as she went from room to room so an opportunistic thief could have been in and out without her even knowing but there is a safe in the room which we used. 2) there was no where solid to secure a Kensington lock for our laptop. This didn't concern us too much given the rest of the security. If we had been bothered, there was always the oven door handle. Would we stay there again? Yes, without a doubt.

Be warned: the Mandela Rhodes may have a full kitchen with washer and dryer, pots and pans, and glass and dishware, but the rooms do not have obvious hotel amenities like a hair dryer, hair conditioner or an iron/ironing board. That being said, it was a beautiful hotel and a wonderful value for the money. I would definitely stay there again. I can't imagine a more stylish hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. One note of caution: the hotel restaurant, Synergy on 7, is absolutely breathtaking, as the design is impeccable, but the food is awful. Go explore the other restaurants in the city, and avoid the hotel restaurant at all costs.

Reviewed by A of Hamburg on Sep 21, 2008

Modernes Hotel in guter, zentraler Lage.
